Read a Jakarta spa menu closely and it starts to look like a spice list. White turmeric, lemongrass and cloves go into the Four Seasons’ lulur scrub; turmeric and sandalwood powder into the Fairmont’s body polish; white glutinous rice into the exfoliation at the Mandarin Oriental. The city’s best hotel spas are not imports of a generic international formula with a frangipani on the towel. At their best they are a polished version of something Indonesians have done at home for centuries, and that is the real reason to book a treatment here rather than wait until you get to Bali. This guide covers the luxury spas Jakarta has to offer, what they cost, and how to get the most from them in a city where the hardest part of a massage can be getting there.
It covers the five-star hotel spas that were open in October 2026, what each does best, the Indonesian treatments worth seeking out, real published prices, the “++” that comes on top, the etiquette questions people are too shy to ask, and when a hotel spa is worth the premium over a neighbourhood massage. Prices and hours were checked in October 2026 against the spas’ own pages. Spa menus change often and seasonal offers come and go, so confirm the price and the treatment when you book.
The shortlist
| Spa | Hotel and area | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| The Spa at Mandarin Oriental | Mandarin Oriental, Thamrin | Javanese massage with clear, published prices |
| The Spa at Four Seasons | Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, Kuningan | A proper lulur ritual and jamu-infused baths |
| Raffles Spa | Raffles Jakarta, Kuningan | Couples, with two VIP suites and an outdoor whirlpool |
| Chuan Spa | The Langham, SCBD | Facials and a long evening session, open until 22:00 |
| Kempinski The Spa | Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Bundaran HI | A day pass with a sky pool, and a spa open until 23:00 |
| Chi, The Spa | Shangri-La Jakarta, Sudirman | Late treatments, until 23:00 |
| Fairmont Spa | Fairmont Jakarta, Senayan | A full thermal circuit with a cold plunge |
| The Ritz-Carlton Spa | The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place, SCBD | A spa and health club in one, connected to a major mall |
| The St. Regis Spa | The St. Regis Jakarta, Kuningan | A quiet, heated-pool retreat |
Two names on older lists have changed. The Fairmont’s spa now trades as Fairmont Spa rather than Willow Stream, and The St. Regis calls its spa simply The St. Regis Spa. If you are comparing hotel spas online, search by the current names or you will land on out-of-date pages.
What a luxury spa treatment costs in Jakarta
Most of Jakarta’s five-star spas publish their treatments but not all of them publish prices online. The Mandarin Oriental is the useful exception, and because its prices are in line with the city’s top tier, it makes a reasonable benchmark. These are its published prices in October 2026, before tax and service.
| Treatment at The Spa, Mandarin Oriental | Length | Price (IDR) |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Javanese massage | 60 / 90 / 120 minutes | 825,000 / 1,125,000 / 1,325,000 |
| Balinese massage | 60 / 90 / 120 minutes | 825,000 / 1,125,000 / 1,325,000 |
| Swedish massage | 60 / 90 / 120 minutes | 725,000 / 1,025,000 / 1,225,000 |
| Borneo Signature Exfoliation (white glutinous rice scrub) | 45 minutes | 500,000 |
| Flawless Facial | 60 minutes | 850,000 |
| Express Foot Therapy, by the pool | 30 minutes | 350,000 |
| Harmony of Love, for a couple | 2 hours | 2,600,000 |
On top of those prices the Mandarin adds an 11 per cent tax and a 10 per cent service charge, which is how Jakarta’s hotel spas work generally: the price on the menu is followed by “++”. Add roughly a fifth to whatever you see. A 90-minute Royal Javanese massage at 1,125,000 rupiah therefore comes to a little over 1,360,000 once both are added.
Convert at the day’s exchange rate and compare it with what a five-star hotel spa charges for 90 minutes at home. For most visitors from Europe, North America, Australia or Singapore, the Jakarta price is a pleasant surprise, and it is the main reason a spa afternoon belongs on a luxury Jakarta itinerary. For the bigger picture of what a high-end trip costs, see our luxury travel guide to Jakarta.
Other prices worth knowing: Hotel Indonesia Kempinski sells a pool day pass at 300,000 rupiah plus tax and service per person, and a pack of six 60-minute treatments for 3,625,000 rupiah ++, valid for three months, which is good value if you are in town for a long stay. Seasonal offers appear regularly at all the hotel spas, often with a set price for a two-hour ritual; ask what is running when you book.
The hotel spas
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Jakarta
The Mandarin Oriental stands on Jalan M.H. Thamrin, overlooking the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, and its spa is the clearest place in the city to try a traditional Indonesian massage in a five-star setting. The Royal Javanese massage uses smooth but deep thumb pressure combined with stroking palm movements, a style quite different from the long gliding strokes of a Swedish massage, and it is the treatment to choose if you have only one. The Balinese massage, which draws on acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy, is the alternative for anyone who prefers a gentler touch.
Beyond massage, the menu includes the Borneo Signature Exfoliation, a body scrub built on white glutinous rice, and longer rituals such as Ultimate Therapy (two hours, scrub then massage) and Harmony of Love for couples: a 60-minute massage, a 40-minute body treatment and a body mask. There is even a Tech Detox treatment aimed at the neck, shoulders and eyes of people who spend all day on a screen, which in Jakarta’s business district is most people.
The spa opens from 10:00 to 22:00. Its rules are clearly set out: guests must be at least 16, arrive 30 minutes early, and give at least six hours’ notice to cancel. Its steam room and sauna have been listed as temporarily closed on the spa’s page, so check if you want the heat facilities.
The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta
If you want to understand why Indonesian spa culture is worth taking seriously, book the Four Seasons’ Luxury of Lulur. The hotel describes it as based on ancient Javanese beauty rituals, and the scrub is made with white turmeric, lemongrass and cloves. Lulur was traditionally prepared for brides in the days before a wedding, and the full version, scrub, bath and massage, is one of the most distinctive things you can do in a Jakarta spa.
The spa also offers Inside and Out, which includes a bath with jamu, the Indonesian herbal tonic; a Menard Shiatsu Facial; Double Indulgence for couples; and, for travellers with almost no time, a 30-minute Snack, Sip and Spa. It is open from 10:00 to 22:00. The hotel is in Kuningan, and like most of the spas here it suits a late afternoon after the day’s meetings or sightseeing.
Raffles Spa, Raffles Jakarta
Raffles Jakarta occupies part of Ciputra World 1 on Jalan Prof. Dr. Satrio in Kuningan, and its spa is built with couples in mind. There are six treatment rooms, two of them VIP suites for couples, along with a steam room, an outdoor whirlpool and ice fountains. Treatments run from 10:00 to 22:00, the facilities from 06:00 and the pool from 06:00 to 20:00.
The Signature Heritage Massage combines Hawaiian Lomi Lomi with Balinese and Javanese techniques, and the Aromatic Couples Romance pairs a soak with a 60-minute massage. Facials use Kerstin Florian products. It is a good choice for an anniversary, a honeymoon stop or simply a long afternoon for two; our guide to romantic hotels in Jakarta covers where to stay for one.
Chuan Spa, The Langham, Jakarta
The Langham’s Chuan Spa is on the 6th floor of the hotel in SCBD, and it opens daily from 09:00 to 22:00. Its approach draws on traditional Chinese medicine, which shows in treatments such as the Chuan Stone Therapy Massage, and it uses the French skincare brand Biologique Recherche for facials, a name that will mean a lot to anyone who follows skincare closely.
The Couple’s Indulgence begins with an herbal steam, followed by a 60- or 90-minute massage in a couple’s room, with champagne or sparkling juice and macarons. Chuan Man’s World is the spa’s menu aimed at men. The hotel’s pools open from 06:00 to 22:00. For a traveller staying in SCBD, it is the easiest serious spa to fit around dinner at one of the hotel’s sky-high restaurants upstairs, which our guide to rooftop restaurants in Jakarta covers.
Kempinski The Spa, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski
Hotel Indonesia Kempinski stands on the Bundaran HI roundabout, and its spa is on the 17th floor. It is one of the latest-closing hotel spas in the city, open every day from 09:00 to 23:00, which makes it the one to remember if you land on an evening flight or need to unwind after a late dinner.
Its other strength is access for non-residents. The Pool Day Pass, at 300,000 rupiah ++ per person, gives access from 09:00 to 19:00 to the gym, an outdoor sky pool, a steam room, a sauna and hot and cold plunge pools, and must be reserved in advance. If you are staying somewhere with a small pool, or simply want a day of rest in the middle of a long trip, it is one of the best-value luxuries in the city. The menu also includes 60-minute singing bowl and Reiki sessions at 700,000 rupiah ++.
Chi, The Spa, Shangri-La Jakarta
Chi, The Spa at the Shangri-La, keeps later hours than most: from 11:00 to 23:00, with last orders at 22:00. Guests under 16 are not allowed. Its booking rules are worth knowing: cancel with less than two hours’ notice and you may pay 50 per cent of the treatment.
Chi is also one of the few spas that sets out plainly what to expect when you arrive: robes, disposable underwear and professional draping are provided. For a first-time spa-goer, that clarity is reassuring. The hotel is on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, convenient for the central business district.
Fairmont Spa, Fairmont Jakarta
Fairmont Jakarta sits beside the Senayan sports complex, and its spa has nine treatment rooms and a full set of thermal facilities: sauna, steam room, jacuzzis and a cold plunge. A co-ed lounge means couples can relax together between treatments, which not every spa allows. Guests must be 18 or over.
The signature treatments include the Sandalwood Scrub, made with turmeric and sandalwood powder, a corrective facial and a signature massage, while Spa Royal for Two is the couples’ ritual. If you want to spend a whole afternoon moving between steam, plunge pool and treatment room, this is the spa set up best for it. Our Senayan area guide covers the neighbourhood around it.
The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place
Jakarta has two Ritz-Carlton hotels, each with its own spa. The one at Pacific Place in SCBD has an 8th-floor spa and health club with eight treatment rooms, two relaxation rooms, a whirlpool, sauna, steam room and cold plunge. Its great advantage is location. The hotel is connected to Pacific Place mall, so a treatment fits naturally into a day of shopping in SCBD. Check current hours and treatments with the hotel, and make sure you book the Pacific Place hotel rather than the Mega Kuningan one.
The St. Regis Spa, The St. Regis Jakarta
The St. Regis Jakarta, in Kuningan, is a grand hotel whose spa is designed as a quiet retreat: a heated pool, a steam room and a Silence Room. Treatments include the Caroline Astor Collection, named after the society hostess associated with the St. Regis brand’s history. Hours and prices are best confirmed directly with the hotel. It suits travellers who want peace more than a long menu.
Indonesian treatments worth booking

It would be a waste to come to Jakarta and book a Swedish massage. The Indonesian traditions behind the menus are the most interesting thing these spas do, and several are hard to find done well outside the country.
Javanese massage
Pijat, Indonesian massage, is something many Jakartans have at home or in the neighbourhood, and the Javanese style uses firm thumb pressure combined with long stroking movements of the palm. It can feel quite strong if you are used to Western spa massages; tell the therapist if you want it lighter. The Mandarin Oriental’s Royal Javanese massage is a good introduction, and Raffles blends Javanese technique into its signature massage.
Lulur
Lulur is a Javanese body scrub with a royal pedigree, traditionally made from rice powder and spices, turmeric above all, which stains the paste a deep yellow. It was used to prepare brides before a wedding, and a full ritual usually combines the scrub with a massage and a bath. The Four Seasons’ Luxury of Lulur, with white turmeric, lemongrass and cloves, is the version to look for; the Fairmont’s Sandalwood Scrub and the Mandarin’s rice-based Borneo exfoliation are in the same family.
Balinese massage
Balinese massage is the gentler cousin of Javanese, combining acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy oils. It is offered at most of the hotel spas here and is the safer choice if you are not sure how firm a massage you want.
Betawi tangas
The Betawi, Jakarta’s own native community, have their own wellness traditions, passed down through generations and still used in the preparation of brides. The best known is tangas, a herbal steam, often followed by borehan (a spiced body rub) and a traditional pijet massage. You are unlikely to find tangas on a five-star spa menu, and that is part of its interest: if a spa or a cultural centre offers it, it is worth trying as a piece of Jakarta’s own culture rather than an imported treatment. Our guide to the Betawi cultural village is the place to start learning more about the community.
Creambath
Ask an Indonesian what they do on a lazy Saturday and many will mention creambath: a thick conditioning cream worked into the hair, followed by a long scalp, neck and shoulder massage, usually with a steam towel. It is a salon treatment rather than a spa one, and it is cheaper and more widely available than anything in this guide. For jet lag and a stiff neck after a long flight, it is hard to beat.
Jamu

Jamu is Indonesia’s herbal medicine, mostly drunk as tonics made from turmeric, ginger, tamarind, rice and other roots and leaves. Women carrying baskets of jamu bottles still walk through many residential neighbourhoods selling small glasses of it, and shops sell powdered and bottled versions. Several hotel spas build jamu into their rituals, the Four Seasons’ Inside and Out includes a jamu bath, and some will serve a glass after the treatment. The sweet-and-sour kunyit asam, turmeric and tamarind, is the easiest one to start with.

Which spa for which visit
One hour between meetings. Stay where you are. The best spa for a business traveller is the one in your own hotel, because the traffic between hotels can eat more time than the treatment. If you must go elsewhere, the Kempinski and Mandarin Oriental are on the MRT corridor at Bundaran HI. A 60-minute massage or a 30-minute treatment is plenty.
Jet lag on arrival. A long Javanese or Balinese massage on the first evening is the best cure for a long-haul flight. Kempinski, open until 23:00, and Chi at the Shangri-La, with last orders at 22:00, are the latest options.
A couple’s afternoon. Raffles Spa, with its two VIP couples’ suites and outdoor whirlpool, or the Fairmont, where the co-ed lounge lets you spend the time between treatments together. The Mandarin’s Harmony of Love is the most clearly priced couple’s ritual in the city.
A real Indonesian ritual. The Four Seasons’ Luxury of Lulur, followed by a glass of jamu. It is the one treatment on this list that you would struggle to find done this well outside Indonesia.
A whole day off. The Kempinski day pass with a treatment, or the Fairmont’s thermal circuit: hours of steam, plunge and pool, rather than a single appointment.
A rainy afternoon. Jakarta’s wet season brings heavy afternoon and evening downpours. A spa is the best possible plan for one, because it keeps you indoors exactly when the roads are at their worst. Book something in a hotel near where you are, rather than across town.
Spa etiquette in Jakarta
Hotel spas in Jakarta follow international conventions, but a few local points are worth knowing, especially in a Muslim-majority country where modesty is taken seriously.
- What to wear. Disposable underwear and a robe are standard, and therapists drape the body with towels throughout. You never need to undress more than you are comfortable with; say so if you would rather keep your own underwear on.
- Therapist gender. It is perfectly normal to ask for a therapist of a particular gender, and many local guests do. Ask when you book rather than on arrival.
- Arrive early. The Mandarin Oriental asks guests to arrive 30 minutes before their treatment; most spas would like at least 15 minutes for a consultation form and a change of clothes.
- Cancellation. Rules vary and are strict: the Mandarin needs six hours’ notice; the Shangri-La’s Chi may charge 50 per cent if you cancel with less than two hours’ notice.
- Age limits. Most hotel spas set a minimum age: 16 at the Mandarin and Chi, 18 at the Fairmont. Families should check before promising a child a treatment.
- Tipping. A service charge is already added to the bill, so a tip is not expected. If your therapist was exceptional, a small cash tip handed to them directly is appreciated.
- Health. Mention pregnancy, injuries, high blood pressure or recent surgery on the consultation form. Javanese massage in particular can be firm.
For the wider picture of manners and customs in the city, see our guide to Jakarta etiquette and customs.
A spa half-day, planned
The easiest way to get real value from a Jakarta hotel spa is to treat it as half a day rather than a single appointment. Here is how that might look at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, whose day pass and published hours make it simple to plan.
- Late morning. Arrive after the morning rush has eased. The Pool Day Pass runs from 09:00 to 19:00 and must be booked in advance; it covers the gym, the outdoor sky pool, the steam room, the sauna and the hot and cold plunge pools.
- Midday. Swim, steam and plunge for an hour or two before your treatment, so your muscles are warm and you are properly relaxed by the time you reach the treatment room.
- Early afternoon. A 60- or 90-minute massage. A Javanese or Balinese massage is the obvious choice; the spa’s singing bowl and Reiki sessions are the alternative if you want something quieter.
- Afternoon tea. Kempinski offers day-pass guests 20 per cent off afternoon tea at the Nirwana Lounge or the Executive Lounge on weekdays between 12:00 and 17:00, on showing the day-pass receipt.
- Before 16:30. Leave before the evening rush builds, or stay on for dinner and travel later. The hotel is on Bundaran HI, close to the MRT’s Bundaran HI station, so the train is an easy way back to much of the centre.
The same pattern works at the Fairmont, with its thermal circuit, or at Raffles, where the facilities open at 06:00, two hours before most visitors would think of arriving. The principle is simple: book the treatment for the middle of your visit, not the start, and give yourself time either side to use what you are paying for.
Spa treatments for men
Jakarta’s hotel spas have plenty of male clients, many of them business travellers who have spent a long day in meetings or on a plane, and several menus are written with them in mind. The Langham’s Chuan Spa has a dedicated men’s menu, Chuan Man’s World. The Mandarin Oriental’s Mandarin Man is a 90-minute ritual, listed at 1,250,000 rupiah before tax and service, that starts with steam or sauna and a sea-salt foot ritual and then moves to a Balinese massage; with the Mandarin’s steam room and sauna listed as temporarily closed on the spa’s page, ask how the ritual is being run. The same spa’s 30-minute Energetic Urban massage, at 450,000 rupiah, is aimed squarely at stiff shoulders and an overworked back.
For a first visit, a firm Javanese or therapeutic massage is a better choice than an elaborate ritual. Tell the therapist about any sports injuries and how much pressure you want, and do not be surprised if a Javanese massage is stronger than you are used to.
Booking when you are not a hotel guest
You do not need to stay at a hotel to use its spa. Most of Jakarta’s hotel spas take bookings from non-residents, and some actively court them: Kempinski’s day pass and treatment packages are designed for people who live or work nearby. It is still worth asking two questions when you book. First, whether non-residents can use the pool, steam and sauna before or after the treatment, or whether the facilities are only for hotel guests. Second, whether there is parking validation or a drop-off point, since arriving by taxi at a busy hotel at 17:00 can mean a long queue at the entrance.
Booking by phone or WhatsApp is normal and often quicker than an online form. Weekend afternoons fill first, as do the couple’s suites, so for a Saturday treatment book a few days ahead.
Getting there: time, not distance
The hotels in this guide are all within a few kilometres of each other, in Thamrin, Sudirman, SCBD, Kuningan and Senayan. In Jakarta that tells you very little. A 30-kilometre journey can take 45 minutes or two hours depending on the hour, and short cross-town trips scale the same way. A spa visit that ends at 18:00 on a weekday can turn straight into an hour in traffic, which rather undoes the massage.
- Book late morning or mid-afternoon if you are travelling to the spa, and avoid finishing between about 16:30 and 19:30 on weekdays.
- Use the MRT for Thamrin and Sudirman: the Kempinski, Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-La are on or near the MRT corridor. See our Jakarta MRT guide.
- Take a Blue Bird taxi or a ride-hailing car to Kuningan and SCBD, and allow plenty of time. Our taxi guide explains the options.
- Stay the night. The single best way to enjoy a Jakarta hotel spa is to be staying in that hotel, so that after the treatment the only journey is the lift.
Hotel spa or neighbourhood massage?
Jakarta is full of massage places, from simple family-run pijat rooms to mid-range reflexology chains in the malls, and a 60-minute massage at one of them costs a fraction of the hotel prices in this guide. Is the five-star spa worth the difference?
For a single massage, honestly, not always. A good neighbourhood therapist can give a Javanese massage every bit as skilled as a hotel’s, and many Jakartans would never pay hotel prices for one. What the hotel spas sell is everything around the massage: consistent hygiene, privacy, a quiet room, English-speaking staff, draping, clear rules, a steam room and a pool, and the certainty that what you booked is what you get. For a first visit to Indonesia, for couples, for anyone who values those things or wants a full ritual such as a lulur, the premium is justified. For a quick shoulder massage after a day’s walking, the mall reflexology place is fine.
The one thing to avoid is the place with no prices, no reviews and a lot of insistence at the door. Stick to hotels, well-known chains and places with clear published prices, and you will not go wrong.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a massage at a luxury spa in Jakarta?
At the Mandarin Oriental, for example, a 60-minute Royal Javanese or Balinese massage was listed at 825,000 rupiah and a 90-minute one at 1,125,000 in October 2026, before an 11 per cent tax and a 10 per cent service charge. Other five-star spas are in the same range; check each spa’s own menu.
Can I use a hotel spa in Jakarta if I am not staying there?
Generally yes. Most hotel spas take bookings from non-residents. Hotel Indonesia Kempinski also sells a Pool Day Pass for 300,000 rupiah ++, giving access to its sky pool, gym, steam room, sauna and plunge pools from 09:00 to 19:00, with advance reservation.
Which Jakarta spa is open latest?
Kempinski The Spa is open until 23:00 every day, and Chi, The Spa at the Shangri-La is open until 23:00 with last orders at 22:00. Chuan Spa, Raffles and the Mandarin Oriental close at 22:00; check the others with the hotel.
What is lulur?
A traditional Javanese body scrub of rice powder and spices, turmeric above all, traditionally used to prepare brides before their wedding. The Four Seasons’ Luxury of Lulur uses white turmeric, lemongrass and cloves.
Which spas are best for couples?
Raffles Spa has two VIP couples’ suites and an outdoor whirlpool; the Fairmont has a co-ed lounge; the Mandarin Oriental’s Harmony of Love and The Langham’s Couple’s Indulgence are dedicated couple’s rituals.
Should I tip at a spa in Jakarta?
It is not expected, as hotel spas add a service charge to the bill. A small cash tip for an outstanding therapist is appreciated.
Can I request a female or male therapist?
Yes. It is a common request in Jakarta, and it is best made when you book.
Is there a minimum age at Jakarta’s hotel spas?
Usually. The Mandarin Oriental requires guests to be at least 16, Chi at the Shangri-La does not allow under-16s, and the Fairmont Spa is for over-18s.
